Learning About Shapes

Today we made pizzas using shapes.  We had a yellow hexagon for the cheesy base,  red circles for tomato or salami or pepperoni and green rectangles for capsicum, white squares for onion and lemon yellow triangles for pineapple.   It was a lot of fun making the pizzas.  After we had made them we practised our counting and number writing skills by counting each shape and writing the number.  We are loving learning about shapes!

Inquiry Learning in Room 1

We talked about a special celebration we are having at School next week to celebrate 110 years of Linwood North School.  We talked about how 110 is a big number and we looked at some photos and videos of school 100 years ago. It was very different! 

We learnt these things:

• The teachers had canes to hurt children
• That sometimes children had to go to work and weren't allowed to go to school
• Girls and boys sometimes went to different schools
• The uniforms were very different to what we wear today
• They didn't have whiteboards 
• They wrote on slates

After looking at the videos Miss Collins took a photo of us and put it through and again app so we could see what we would look like in the future when we were older.   We all thought it was very funny but interesting.

Being A Learner - School Visit #4

Today we had our last school visit! We had a busy day drawing, painting and naming body parts. 
First we got Mat Man out and assembled him.  We all had parts and Miss Collins sang the song and we had to add the body part to Mat Man and point to that body part on our own body. 

Then we drew lines from the body part names to the body part.  There were lots of tricky words to read!  Alex a big boy helped us out with this activity.

After that we painted a background using paint.  We had to dab the green paint to make it look like grass and we swirled the blue paint around to make it look like the sky.  Miss Collins taught us how to manage the paint by only dipping our brush in a little bit, wiping our brush, how to change colour, painting techniques and how to put on an art shirt.  We enjoyed painting together!

After painting we looked at Mat Man again and then we tried drawing ourselves with pencil.  Once we had drawn ourselves nice and big we drew over our lines with vivid.  Miss Collins cut them out and she is going to glue them onto the background for our Art display.

School Visit #3

Today we had our third School Visit with Mrs Tizzard.  Our Morning Message today was to draw three things that start with Ss. Here is a photo of the things we drew.  After our Morning Message we had Circle Time with Mrs Tizzard where we shared our feelings and learnt more about each other. 

Room 1 School Visit #3

Today we had visit #3 and five people made it to this visit.  We had a visit with Mrs Tizzard today.  It was nice to spend some time getting to know her as Mrs Tizzard will teach Room One on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
