BEING A LEARNER: Reading Action Stations

This term we have started a new programme at Reading Time called Action Stations.  This involves the children working through different stations of reading activities independently.  The teachers still take reading groups like normal.   These are set up before school so parents can explore the activities with their children.   We are enjoying the new activities and having the choice of what activities we do first.  We have special rules and things to focus on.  At the end of each session we take time to reflect on our learning.

Being A Learner: Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori/Maori: Language Week

This week it is Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori/New Zealand Maori Language Week.
The Teachers in Room One are aiming to include as much Reo (Maori Language) as possible into our Teaching and Learning.
This year we celebrate 40 years of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!

Our term focus is "ō ngā ra ō te Wiki" - "Days of the Week".

Here is a video to help us learn the days of the week.

Being A Learner: Our Letter of the Week is... Vv

Room One's Letter of the Week is... Vv

Each week we focus on a letter to learn, read and write about.  We do this through phonics, singing, reading stories, handwriting, alphabet activities, letter writing, play dough, Language Experience, make and do and lots of other things.

This week for Language Experience we are making something beginning with Vv.
Watch the video below to guess what we are making that begins with the letter Vv.

This week we are learning about the letter Vv.  We will learn its name, its sound, how to write and recognise it and about some things that begin with this letter.

The teachers love planning exciting learning experiences to help us learn our letters.

At the moment we LOVE alphabet songs so Miss Collins has posted a couple of videos/songs about the letter Vv that we might like.

How many Vv words can you see and hear in these You Tube Clips Room One?

Being Respectful: Welcome to the new people in Room One!

This week we have had five new pupils start in Room One with Miss Collins and Mrs Tizzard.  We warmly welcome these new tamariki and their whānau to Linwood North School.  The other Room One pupils have been respectful and responsible with helping them settle in and get used to life at school.

Being A Learner: Testing Our Cars!

On the second to last day of Term Two we raced our cars that each class had made.  Room One had intended on making balloon cars but it turns out the milk cartons were too heavy and wouldn't move.  We used push and gravity as our forces instead.  We got into our groups and pushed the cars down the PMP ramp.

At the moment we LOVE alphabet songs so Miss Collins has posted a couple about the letter Ww that we might like.

People in America say the letter Zz differently to us.  They say zee instead of zed.  It is good for us to learn this in case we travel the world!
