Being A Learner: The Letter Tt

Each week we focus on a letter to learn, read and write about.  We do this through phonics, singing, reading stories, handwriting, alphabet activities, letter writing, play dough, Language Experience, make and do and lots of other things.

This week we are learning about the letter Tt.  We will learn its name, its sound, how to write and recognise it and about some things that begin with this letter.

At the moment we LOVE alphabet songs so Miss Collins has posted a couple of videos/songs about the letter Tt that we might like.

How many Tt words can you see and hear in these You Tube Clips Room One?

Being A Learner: Tt is for Toothbrush at Language Experience Time

Today for Language Experience we practised being Tooth Defenders.
Our phonics focus is the letter Tt so we learnt how bright smiles and teeth cleaning are important for everyday health.
After we had learnt about to correctly brush our teeth we all got given a toothbrush and a tiny tube of toothpaste and we brushed our teeth.

Here is the Tooth Defender video we watched.

Doctor Rabbit said we must:
  • Brush our teeth at least twice a day
  • Floss daily
  • Not to eat too many snacks during the day
  • Visit the dentist to check our teeth and gums are healthy.

Being A Learner: Learning About Heavy and Light

Today we made the scales using an old can and a the lid of a shoe box.  We compared a group of objects and their weight. It was a lot of fun comparing objects.  Then we worked in groups and classified objects according to their weight.  It was fun working together in groups.
Next we will compare how many cubes it takes to weigh objects.

Being A Learner: Swimming At Aquagym

Today we started our swimming lessons at Aquagym.
Our teachers are Lucy, Katrina and Mikayla.
We are in three groups and today our teaches checked out what we know in our groups.
It was very exciting going swimming for the first time!
Miss Collins talked about what would happen when we arrived so we knew what to expect.
We also talked about listening to our teacher so we could learn as much as possible.
We are looking forward to getting better at swimming!

Here are some Room 1 swimmers!

Being A Respectful and Responsible: Today We Started Swimming!

Today we started swimming for two weeks.  We were very excited to be getting on a bus to go to swimming.  We practised being Respectful and Responsible on the bus by following the three corner rule.  This means we can't talk until the driver has been around three corners.  It allows the bus driver to safely drive us to the school.

Being A Learner: Tadpoles Have Arrived In The Kakano Block!

In the holidays, Mrs Narbey managed to find the Kakano Team some tadpoles.  They are all at different stages from eggs to medium sized tadpoles.  Each class has some tadpoles to learn about.  They have some growing to do!

Our frogs are Brown Tree Frogs which often also called Whistling Tree Frogs.  Here is some information about them and how to care for them.

Here are some photos of our set up so far.
