Being A Learner: Room One's Letter of the Week is... Xx

Room One's Letter of the Week is... Xx

Each week we focus on a letter to learn, read and write about.  We do this through phonics, singing, reading stories, handwriting, alphabet activities, letter writing, play dough, Language Experience, make and do and lots of other things.

This week for Language Experience we are making something beginning with Xx.  Can you think of something that begins with Xx?

This week we are learning about the letter Xx.  We will learn its name, its sound, how to write and recognise it and about some things that begin with this letter.

The teachers love planning exciting learning experiences to help us learn our letters.

At the moment we LOVE alphabet songs so Miss Collins has posted a couple of videos/songs about the letter Xx that we might like.

How many Xx words can you see and hear in these You Tube Clips Room One?

Trying New Things

Miss Collins, one of our teachers loves shopping.  She saw these cool styluses at Paper Plus on sale and thought they would be great from Room One, so she bought one for each iPad to try out.  They are a pencil on one end and a stylus on the other end.

The iPads are popular in Room One and we are beginning to learn how there are apps for different things like learning apps and fun apps.  Sometimes though learning apps are fun too.

Miss Collins thought they would help us form our letters and they are the same shape as a pencil which will help with our handwriting grip.
We used them today with the iPad and thought they were great especially when we needed to form letters and move things into tricky places.  They were cool to use.  We have two pink one and two blue ones.

Here are some photos of us trying out our cool new toys!

Micheal and Lucas had finished all of their work and were trying out the pencils on the Lego game.  Miss Collins hung out with them for a little while and loved hearing the boys share their knowledge and collaborate together.

Nikora chose to explore a new app he had seen Miss Collins use called Duck Duck Moose.
He found it could do lots of different things and is keen to use it again.

Tre'destiny explored a Maths app on the iPad.  She enjoyed having time by herself to try and figure out how it worked on her own.  Maybe she will become the expert on this app?

Here is a picture of one of our new styluses.
