Here are our Karawha and Kokari Being Learners at the Horncastle Arena. They also learn with Matua Anton like us. We enjoyed watching this video and seeing our whānau and friends performing. We thought it was pretty cool and something that we would be keen to try in the future!

Being A Learner: Kapahaka
Each Monday we go to Kapahaka with Matua Anton.
Today Peyton from Room 3 led us with Susie from Room 5 in Kia Tau and Miss Collins caught it on film. It was wonderful to see the leadership being developed from such a young age.

Room One Spelling Superstars
These cool people got 100% in their weekly spelling test. Miss Collins has started a ' Room One Super Star Spellers' wall on the window. She writes up the names up in special window pens so everyone can see. They also got to pick from the prize box.
We look forward to more names next week!
Well done Tredestiny, Cody and Mualijcia!

Trying New Things
Miss Collins, one of our teachers loves shopping. She saw these cool styluses at Paper Plus on sale and thought they would be great from Room One, so she bought one for each iPad to try out. They are a pencil on one end and a stylus on the other end.
The iPads are popular in Room One and we are beginning to learn how there are apps for different things like learning apps and fun apps. Sometimes though learning apps are fun too.
Miss Collins thought they would help us form our letters and they are the same shape as a pencil which will help with our handwriting grip.
We used them today with the iPad and thought they were great especially when we needed to form letters and move things into tricky places. They were cool to use. We have two pink one and two blue ones.
Here are some photos of us trying out our cool new toys!
Micheal and Lucas had finished all of their work and were trying out the pencils on the Lego game. Miss Collins hung out with them for a little while and loved hearing the boys share their knowledge and collaborate together.
Nikora chose to explore a new app he had seen Miss Collins use called Duck Duck Moose.
He found it could do lots of different things and is keen to use it again.
Tre'destiny explored a Maths app on the iPad. She enjoyed having time by herself to try and figure out how it worked on her own. Maybe she will become the expert on this app?
Here is a picture of one of our new styluses.

Science Experiments Using Forces
On Tuesday we did our first Science experiment with Room Two. First Miss Collins told us that we were going to move paint on a page but we weren't sure how. We thought we could move it around using a our fingers or a spoon. Then Miss Collins told us we were going to be given a straw. Next we formed a question, which was "How can we use a straw to move paint around a piece of paper?"
After that we formed a hypothesis which is when you predict what you think will happen.
We thought...
- The paint might go all over us.
- The paint might splash off the page
- Paint could end up in our mouth.
After that Miss Collins and Miss Philp explained what we were going to do and recorded it on our experiment chart. We wrote it down because that is what 'real' scientists do.
We carried out the experiment and we found out that we could move the paint around the page by blowing down the straw. The paint was quite thick and hard to move around. Room One then tried the experiment again with dye which was thinner and it moved around the page more easily. The dye spread like fireworks.
The air forced the paint and dye to move around the page.

We Love Swimming!
This week we have been having swimming lessons at Aquagym with Room Six.
We have enjoyed catching the bus each day and going in the water and taking risks. We have written lots of stories at writing time with Room Two and you can see these on our walls.
