Here are our Karawha and Kokari Being Learners at the Horncastle Arena. They also learn with Matua Anton like us. We enjoyed watching this video and seeing our whānau and friends performing. We thought it was pretty cool and something that we would be keen to try in the future!

Being A Learner: Olympic Day @ LNS 2/9/16
On Thursday we had Olympic Day at school. In the afternoon, we got into countries and tried different modified sports. We worked together to earn points for our team. We also dressed in our countries colours as part of our KidsCan Mufti Day. It was lots of fun and Miss Collins and Mrs Tizzard saw lots of smiles on Room One faces.
Miss Collins and Mrs Tizzard's equestrian steeplechase was a huge hit! Neigh!
Mrs Leatham's station was like a field event at the olympics.
Miss Williamson ran the tug of war which students loved!
Say cheese...
Mrs Campbell ran an event like javelin. We had to throw a rolled up magazine.
Three legged races were a hit with Mrs Sprosen.
Sack races were fun but tiring!
Mrs Geal's dress up game was funny! It took team work!
The Closing Ceremony was great to be part of!
Medal winners!

Being A Learner: Xx is for Xylophone
Today at Discovery Time Mrs Tizzard organised Xylophone Biscuits for us to make. She saw the idea on Pinterest. Mrs Tizzard made the biscuit using a rectangle cookie cutter. She used the basic biscuit recipe which we have used before to make biscuits.
We watched a video about xylophones and Miss Collins borrowed Mrs O's from the music rooms for us to play. We worked in our writing and handwriting groups. Each teacher took a different group. First we iced them using different coloured icing. Room 3 had green, Room 2 had pink and Room One had blue. Next we put two tiny M & M Minis at each end. We had to show persistence in icing the biscuits as that was tricky!
Then we went back to our class and put the biscuits together to make them look like a xylophone. After that it was three o'clock and we took our biscuits home to eat! They were yummy!

Being A Learner: Using Our New Rakau and Saying Thank You to Ms Smith
Ms Smith got each class a set of rakau made for their classroom as part of our Inquiry this term. They will live in our classrooms so we can learn to use them.
Room One were very excited about the rakau.
Ms Smith asked us to check our numbers so we counted them together back into the box to make sure we had 28 pairs. We had 29! We took the extra pair to Ms Smith and said thank you.
We were so excited about using them that we had a wee play.
We put on a You Tube clip of some kids using rakau to a song and we tried to copy their moves. We LOVE our new rakau!

Being A Learner: Olympic Themed Language Experience
On Monday we had an Olympic Themed Language Experience. We went into workshops and each teacher provided a different activity. In Room One the students made Olympic Ring bracelets with Miss Collins. We watched a short video about the rings and found out the colours represent the different flags from around the World.
In Room Two the students made gold medals using chocolate coins and ribbons. We had to glue gun the ribbon on and that was a little tricky! We loved making the medals!
In Room Three we made New Zealand flags to wave for when win Gold medals. Mrs Sprosen talked about our flag and why it is special.

Being A Learner: Vv is for Volcano
Today we learnt about volcanoes. It was a chance to learn some new words and talk about what volcanoes do. Miss Collins made us a salt dough volcano so that we could recreate a volcano through a science experiment.
Miss Collins put baking soda, yellow and red food colouring and malt vinegar in the chimney of our volcano to create magma and lava erupting. We loved watching the volcano erupt and thought that we might like to try this experiment at home.
Here are the videos we watched at Writing and Language Experience time.

Being A Learner: Learning To Use The iPads For Learning
Today we got out the iPads out at Maths time and learnt how use use QR codes and how to log into Mathletics. We thought the QR codes were cool because we were able to go straight to the website. Logging into Mathletics was a little tricky but we showed persistence and managed. Miss Collins has assigned us iPad numbers so we can login easily and so she knows which photos are on which iPad.
Using the Activboard for Geometry
Learning to take turns
Finding shapes on the Activboard
Kyra-Leigh deciding which shapes are rectangles
Learning to use the QR Code app to link to websites
Exploring the QR code websites
These are QR codes. They direct us to a website or a learning activity.

Being A Learner: The Letter of the Week is Vv
Each week we focus on a letter to learn, read and write about.
We do this through phonics, singing, reading stories, handwriting, alphabet activities, letter writing, play dough, Language Experience, make and do and lots of other things.
This week we are learning about the letter Vv. We will learn its name, its sound, how to write and recognise it and about some things that begin with this letter.
The teachers love planning exciting learning experiences to help us learn our letters.
What starts with Vv?
Here are some videos to help give you some ideas!

Being A Learner: Our Shape Walk
Today we went on a Shape Walk around our school.
We were able to identify lots of shapes within our playground.
It was exciting to take our learning outside into our wider school environment.
We have put the photos into a slideshow and we are going to write about what we found.
