Being A Learner: Calendar Art

Here are photos of our finished calendar art!  They look amazing!
We have found it tricky having to create our art step by step but we understand that the result is AMAZING!

BEING A LEARNER: Learning to tint paint

Today we learnt how to tint blue with black to make a Matariki night sky.  First we painted a line of blue and then we gradually added a little black to the blue so that we ended up with black at the other side of the page.

It was a little tricky and harder than what we thought. We had to persist at what we were doing and sometimes we had to fix up our mistakes.  It was fun trying something new and taking risks with our learning.   Something we noticed was that the black paint made the blue paint go a little greenish.
We enjoyed learning to tint a colour.

The next step is for us to add some stars to the night sky and a city scape.
Watch this space for these Matariki inspired artworks!

Learning to Mix Colours and Being A Learner

As part of our Painting we have been learning to mix primary colours together to make secondary colours.  Miss Collins gave us a blank fish and we had to paint the head starting with yellow and then add a little bit of red each time until we reached the tail which had to be red.

So far we have learnt that...

RED + YELLOW = ORANGE

and

BLUE + YELLOW = GREEN

Here are some photos of use learning how to hold a paintbrush like a pencil, add a little of another colour and how to correctly apply paint onto paper.  We were painting superstars!

Here is Lucas adding red to his yellow.

Cody is holding his paintbrush like a pencil.

Mualijcia is trying to add more yellow to her red to make it lighter.

Lupe is taking care with her painting and is painting each fish scale.

Micheal took care with his work.

Lorenzo held his paintbrush like a pencil.

Tredestiny is taking care with her work.

We enjoyed working together at one table

ANZAC Poppies

On Saturday it is ANZAC Day.  We are having a special assembly on Friday to remember all of the soldiers who died at war.  This year it is 100 years since World War 1.  Our school has pretend graves to remind us of the soldiers who died.  Our class watched a video clip of the Dawn Parade that happens each year.  Then we made poppies for out assembly.  Here are some photos of us making our poppies.

Making Salt Dough Fossils and Bones

Miss Collins made use some salt dough at home foe us to make bones and fossils out of.  First we had a play with the dough and some of us found that it hurt the little cuts we had in our hands.  Then Miss Collins handed out the dinosaurs and we pushed them into the salt dough to make a fossil.  We had to be careful not push a hole in the salt dough.  After that we pinched and rolled dough to make a bone shape.  We looked at dinosaur skeletons to get ideas.  After school Miss Collins cooked them for us and made them go hard.  Next we will tag them like real scientists.

Art And Alphabet In Room One

This week we have been learning the letter Kk.  We brainstormed things that started with Kk and came up with King, kangaroo, kiwifruit, kiwi, keys and koala.  As part of Reading we made crowns so we could be Kings and the girls could be Queens.  We even put jewels on our crowns like Kings and Queens.

As part of Art we have been learning to draw ourselves.  We drew our face and shoulders using pencil and then we traced over our lines with black marker.  We also painted crowns and sprinkled glitter on them to make them sparkly.  Then Miss Collins cut them out and stuck them on us.  We did a great job of drawing our face and we remembered to put all of the things on our face like eyebrows, ears and a nose.

Don't we look very royal!
