Being A Learner: Our Letter of the Week is... Ss

This week our Poem is a tongue twister...

Here is a video clip to help us learn our tongue twister...

Each week we focus on a letter to learn, read and write about.  We do this through phonics, singing, reading stories, handwriting, alphabet activities, letter writing, play dough, make and do and lots of other things.

This week we are learning about the letter Ss.  We will learn its name, its sound, how to write and recognise it and about some things that begin with this letter.

At the moment we LOVE alphabet songs so Miss Collins has posted a couple of videos/songs about the letter Ss that we might like.

Being A Learner: It's the Holidays!

Yay!  It's the holidays!
Here are 10 ideas to try that are free or cheap!

  1. Take a walk in the Botanical Gardens and Hagley Park
  2. Visit the Canterbury Museum
  3. Walk the Bridle Path
  4. Bake at home using our Basic Biscuit recipe on the blog, decorate and EAT!
  5. Make a hut inside using blankets and chairs and then have a picnic inside it.
  6. Go on a colour hunt in your house. Take photos of a certain colour and make a PicCollage.
  7. Write a letter to someone
  8. Visit the local Library and get some books out
  9. Make a “city” with cars, toys and boxes for buildings
  10.  Make a mini-themed play area: in a large rectangle bucket or tray create your own play scene. For example: use a smaller container (like an empty margarine container) filled with water, and in the rectangle bucket place rocks, small twigs, bark or sticks from trees for an outdoor scene
We look forward to hearing about your holiday adventures!

Being A Learner: Room One's Letter Of The Week Is Pp!

Room One's Letter of the Week is... Pp

We have learnt all of the letters of the alphabet and are back at the beginning.
We use the Jolly Phonics order to teach our letters.
 So we don't teach the letters/sounds A, B, C etc.
 The order we use is... s, a, t, i, p, n ck, e, h, r, m, d g, o, u, l, f, b ai, j, oa, ie, ee, or z, w, ng, v, oo(book), oo (moon) y, x, ch, sh, th.
We use this order so that we can learn to quickly write small words like sat, sit, pit, pin, tin etc.
Each child has a sounds booklet to practice at home. We also use this video clip at school each day to help us. Each week we focus on a letter/sound to learn, read and write about. We do this through phonics, singing, reading stories, handwriting, alphabet activities, letter writing, play dough, Language Experience, make and do and lots of other things.

This week for Language Experience we are making something beginning with Pp. Can you think of something that begins with Pp?

This week we are learning about the letter Pp.
We will learn its name, its sound, how to write and recognise it and about some things that begin with this letter.

The teachers love planning exciting learning experiences to help us learn our letters.
At the moment we LOVE alphabet songs so Miss Collins has posted a couple of videos/songs about the letter Pp that we might like.

Learning The Days of The Week

As part of out time learning, we have been learning the days of the week.  Miss Collins taught us a song off You Tube called Days Of The Week.
We love singing this song and often find ourselves singing it to ourselves during the day.  It is helping us to learn the days of the week.
