Being a Learner- Te Reo Maori

This afternoon we developed our colour knowledge about colour names in te reo maori. The children learnt the phrase 'homai te (colour)' to ask their partner for different coloured counters.

Here are a few videos showing how fantastic they were! Ka pai Room 1 learners.

Being a Learner- Poetry fun

Our poem this week is called 'I blew a bubble'. The children enjoyed experimenting while reading with different voices, volumes and actions to match the words.

We then went outside to blow some of our own bubbles! They each tried out a variety of bubble wands and loved watching their bubbles blow off across the playground.

Being a Learner- Kiwisport

We enjoyed playing a variety of games today with Nate that worked on our movement and spacial awareness skills.

Being Respectful and Being a Learner- Learning through play

The girls were super excited about being able to play in the learning area this afternoon. They quickly got to work making up a 'healthy dinner' with lots of chicken and vegetables. They showed great social skills and sharing while playing together.

Karley role played being the teacher for a phonics lesson. She showed each of the pictures and introduced the sounds and then pretended to sound out and blend words together. Only been at school since Monday, impressive work Karley!

National Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Room 1 loved taking part in National Talk Like a Pirate Day by making pirate hats and eye patches. We answered the register with a big loud "aghr Miss Philp" and enjoyed learning the letter Rr sound in phonics.

We hunted school for a pirate ship for our class photo, but the next best thing was the swing! Enjoy the snaps!

Being a Learner- Playground Writing

Today Room 1 went outside to play on the playground. We stopped after 5 minutes to talk about which part of the playground is our favourite and why. We shared and modelled our favourite parts to our friends and they all had a play on it too.
The children are already looking forward to writing about the playground in their books this week.

Being a Learner-Reading

It is great to see the reading skills of our new entrants improving every day!

Samuel loved reading the story about Jolly Roger!

The girls read a story about a boy Billy not wanting to be in a family photo.

Olivia read a story about Sally and her mum going to the zoo.

Our newest children to school were reading a story about a sandcastle

Karley was on her final visit to school today and showed amazing motivation and positivity towards reading. Can't wait to have you join the class on Monday Karley!

Being a Learner- Writing

Today we talked about how Miss Philp was excited to go home in the holidays and have her dads roast pork for dinner.
The children each shared what their favourite meal was and we did some
Writing about it.
