Learning The Days of The Week

As part of out time learning, we have been learning the days of the week.  Miss Collins taught us a song off You Tube called Days Of The Week.
We love singing this song and often find ourselves singing it to ourselves during the day.  It is helping us to learn the days of the week.

Week Two Of Swimming Lessons

This week we have continued with our swimming lessons.  The children have become very confident in the water and are enjoying being a learner in the pool.  We have written some wonderful stories about swimming.  These are in our published writing books and the children would love to share these with their whanau.

ANZAC Poppies

On Saturday it is ANZAC Day.  We are having a special assembly on Friday to remember all of the soldiers who died at war.  This year it is 100 years since World War 1.  Our school has pretend graves to remind us of the soldiers who died.  Our class watched a video clip of the Dawn Parade that happens each year.  Then we made poppies for out assembly.  Here are some photos of us making our poppies.

Our Swimming Lessons At Aquagym

Room One went swimming today at Aquagym Pool.  It was Tredestiny's first day at school too.
This is what we thought about swimming today...

"I liked going under the water." said Izzan.

"I was brave today because I went swimming and splashing." said Cody.

"Swimming today was fun." said Lorenzo.

"I liked going under the water." said Mualijcia.

"I liked going swimming." said Lupe

Term 2 Songs

The Term Two songs that the Kakano Team is going to to learn are up at the top of the page on a new page.  I know lots of the children enjoyed learning last terms songs and watching the video clips.

From Miss Collins

A Funny Swimming Poem...

Here is a wee poem to get you ready for swimming and to have a giggle about...
Click on the picture or the title and you can hear the poet read this poem aloud.

Swimming in the swimming pool
is where I like to "B,"
wearing underwater goggles
so that I can "C."
Yesterday, before I swam,
I drank a cup of "T."
Now the pool is just an "ool"
because I took a "P."

Parents are welcome to come and watch!
Don't forget to be at school on time in your uniform to get your Dojo points!

Let's Go Fly A Kite...

This week we have focused on writing poetry as part of our writing programme and School Wide Literacy Week.  The Teachers and students have enjoyed exploring how to write different poems.  It was lovely to see students sharing their poetry at the Kakano Poetry Slam last Friday.

We concluded our school week with a combined Literacy Week and Inquiry celebration.  The whole school made kites, which had pictures of our family on them.  As a school we went and flew our kites with our buddies.  It was an absolute to see the huge smiles on our learner’s faces as they flew their kites.  I could see the children focusing and thinking about their kite and taking risks to see how they could get their kite higher in the air.
